Rachel Peterson, BA, is currently completing her Diploma in Applied Linguistics from the University of Victoria, "when the university's practically in your backyard, it's hard not to go!". Her background is varied in communications, "I've done a bit of everything" including working in short local film productions, volunteering for a couple of years at the local cable station, to co-hosting a radio arts show on CFUV, UVic's campus radio. "That started as a dare, actually. A friend and I had agreed to get ourselves on air, but her excuse for not going ahead was moving to Toronto (thanks, E!). I went ahead and did it anyway. I was terrible at first. Really terrible." From there, Rachel lent her editing skills to newsletters for local non-profit organizations as an extension of her freelance writing, but says, "I miss being on radio the most because I was able to meet so many artists (her radio show was called Artlet), and it allowed me to improvise a lot. Sometimes that was the best part --completely winging it when doing interviews. That kind of spontaneity is now part of my skill set when I tutor." In her spare time, Rachel is an amateur photographer and videographer. She has helped hundreds of students improve their written English including high school students, university and college students, international students, native English speakers, mature students, business professionals, kids as young as ten, and even one grandmother, (which just means you're never too old to learn!). Well known fact: she loves Hershey Kisses Favourite view of Victoria: atop Mt. Tolmie Best palm pilot ever used: pen on paper |
